Learn to Tend the Land

My Philosophy

The principal that informs all of my work with the land is that we must remake our relationship with the living earth into one of respect and kinship rather than domination and control.

What we choose to do, even with a small patch of earth, makes an enormous difference to a single bee looking for a safe place to live and good food to eat. It can offer profound healing to us humans, too.

What I offer is not a design service. While I will suggest plants that are suited to a site, my ultimate goal is to bring you into relationship with the land and teach you how to take care of it.

My goal is to help people understand the ecology of the land and what it is asking for. I will introduce you to the plant kin who live alongside you and help you partner with them to create a diverse, deeply alive space that nourishes both humans and our more-than-human kin.

My experience is rooted in years of working with clients to create beautiful biodiverse spaces. But much more importantly, my advice and philosophy are informed by a lifetime of observing local plant and wildlife communities, and by over a decade of tending and living in close relationship with the beautiful land where I live.

How does a consultation work?

During our first meeting, we’ll discuss the nature of your site, walk the land together if it is an in-person visit (or look over any pictures or videos you have of the land if online), discuss the plants and other kin who may be living there, and talk about different approaches you can take to encourage biodiversity and create a truly nourishing habitat.

If you are interested in a consultation, please fill out the form and we can chat.
